Alex the African Grey Parrot has died.

I had read a lot about Alex, a parrot who could count and knew colors. I was very sad to hear just now of Alex’s death. My parrot, Rufus, is the same species as Alex. I had followed the research with Alex with great interest.

Dr. Irene Pepperberg had worked with Alex for many years. Their research told a lot about the capabilities of African Grey Parrots. Here’s more information on the Alex website. Here’s a video of Alex telling colors, numbers, etc, that was on PBS.
