I love pets and I have African Grey Parrots, cockatiels, lovebirds, parakeets, dogs bunnies and a pond full of goldfish

We took my boy dog Belty out on an outing today – and it wasn’t the vet!

My good boy dog Belty has not felt good very often lately. He has had two strokes, he has kidney disease and he is 14 years old. Today, he just felt good for a change, so my hubby and I took him on an outing.

We went to PetsMart and wandered around. He enjoys seeing other dogs and sniffing around places where they have been. Even when we have to take him to the vet, which is pretty often lately, he enjoys sniffing around.

Belty was having a really good time in the store and he was extra happy. So, next we decided to take him to a little lake. Belty and I walked all around it in the cold wind while my hubby sat in the truck and read…. Belty was having too much fun to care about it being cold.

Belty enjoyed seeing the ducks and geese. And, of course, he enjoyed sniffing all the trees and bushes.

Belty is in his “Lazy Dog” chair (my hubby’s lazy boy chair) and having a well deserved nap.

Good boy Belty!

The posts below show how bad this past year has been for Belty – We are very thankful every day that God has decided to let Belty keep living with us.

My good boy dog Belty seems to be recovering from his stroke!

I wrote two days ago about my dog Belty having another stroke: My dog Belty had another stroke and I’m afraid we will lose him soon.. It seems like Belty is getting better!

Belty, the best dog in the history of the world

First some history: Belty has had health problems for the last year. First, we found out he had kidney disease: (My dog, Belty’s kidneys are shutting down … and I am broken hearted…).  Then, a month after that he had his first stroke: (Good news and bad news about my good boy dog Belty…) It turned out we were were able to manage the kidney disease that with special food, and he recovered from his stroke, too!

He had his latest stroke a week ago last Sunday. He could not walk, his head was shaking and his eyes were moving back and fourth uncontrollably. We took him to the vet as soon as we could, and they prescribed steroids. He just did not seem to be getting better at all. My hubby and I were trying hard to be prepared to lose him.

Last Saturday morning , three days ago, we brought him to the vet again to see if there was anything else they could try. The vet hooked Belty up to an IV to give him fluids. My hubby and I prayed and prayed. Fortunately, Belty got a little stronger and got to come home with us later that day. But, then he got worse again.

At the time I wrote my last blog entry, two days ago, Belty was doing very badly. He was very weak, hardly walking, he wouldn’t eat, could hardly see, was very dizzy and just looked like we were going to lose him any second. I was brokenhearted.

Now, he seems to be improving! Belty seems to feel so much better! He is eating again, he is walking better, he does not seem as dizzy and he can see better! He even tries to sit up when I get a doggie goodie out of the goodie box!

He seems like a happy dog again. It looks like he might recover from this stroke like he recovered from his last stroke.

My hubby and I have been praying and praying for our good boy. I am so thankful that it seems like it is in God’s plan for Belty to recover!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

My dog Belty had another stroke and I’m afraid we will lose him soon.

I have not brought this up in my blog yet because it is too painful to talk about. My dog Belty is the best dog in the history of the world. Last week, a week ago today, Belty had another stroke.

Belty, the best dog in the world

He had a stroke another time, and he was able to recover from it. At first his eyes shook and his head tilted and he could not walk straight. But, in time, he was back to his old happy self, and we were able to relax again.

On top of his strokes, he has also been suffering with kidney disease for the past year. We have had pretty good success with managing it by giving him special food that he can digest easier.

This time,, with everything Belty has been through, we are afraid he will not recover. He is 14 now, and I realize that God will take him sooner than later. It does not make it any easier, though.

Belty is having a hard time getting around and he is not eating. He is starting to dwindle away. I have been praying to God to take him all at once and not let him suffer by dwindling away and having a lot of pain.

Anyway, I just had to talk about it. I would appreciate prayers from dog lovers who understand how painful this is. I would also appreciate kind thoughts from those of you who do not pray.

Thank you,

X

It is official: My parakeet widower and my parakeet widow are now an item.

Parakeets Shelly on the left, female, and Ginger, maleI just came home from a ride with my hubby, and I checked on all my pets. I noticed that Shelly was sitting behind Ginger, propping him up. Ginger had his head turned around kissing Shelly. Awwww.

Ginger’s mate, Moonpie, died last week. (Goodbye Moonpie. We will miss you very much. ) I was hoping he would not be alone too long.

Shelly, on the other hand, lost her mate, lovebird Pipsqueak, a year ago. She’s been fighting with Gumby, Beady’s mate. Since I only have two males, the females are jealous of who has them.

Ginger and Moonpie were the closest parakeet couple I’ve ever had in the ten years I’ve had parakeets. They totally were dedicated to each other, and totally relied on each other. I was very sad when Moonpie died, leaving Ginger alone.

Shelly has been trying to catch Ginger’s eye shortly after Moonpie died: Relationship issues in my parakeet cage – A pretty widow wants a recent widower

I’m happy that neither Ginger or Shelly are not alone anymore.
